There is a plaque affixed to the center bottom of the board that reads "MODEL 1860 CAVALRY SABER". Both saber and scabbard are secured to the board by matching green wire. There are also a couple of tiny holes in the scabbard just above the lower mount. While the surface of the scabbard is moderately rusted, it is still solid, and there are a few small holes in the scabbard between the upper mount and throat opening. The iron scabbard is complete with both mounts and rings. The edge of the blade has a few small nicks. The fact that the tang of the blade is clearly more weathered than the blade itself indicates that the saber was likely recovered while still inside the scabbard. The blade is in very good condition with only light rust and pitting.
